A mid-layer is typically worn as the second layer. The selection of the midlayer should be carefully considered. If it's too thin, we cool down. If it's too thick, we overheat very quickly. In summer, the mid-layer should therefore be more of a cooling long-sleeve and in winter a fleece, a soft shell jacket or even an insulated jacket. Good midlayers are characterized by the fact that they are extremely breathable. Some mid-layers are equipped with wind- and water-repellent materials, so they can also be worn as the outermost layer.
