The morning of May 29, 1953, dawned clear and bright, a promising start for two mountaineers who would make history that day. Sir Edmund Hillary of New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay, a Sherpa of Nepal, stood on the brink of achieving what many thought impossible: the first successful summit of Mount Everest that stands at 8.849 m, is the highest peak in the world. Their journey to the top was a testament to human endurance, determination, and the indomitable spirit of exploration.
The expedition was meticulously planned and equipped, with a team of seasoned mountaineers and Sherpas. Their climb was not just about reaching the summit but also about teamwork, mutual respect, and overcoming immense physical and mental challenges. The two men, from vastly different backgrounds, formed a strong bond during the climb, united by their common goal.
Everest is beautiful, touching your every sense and deepest inner self. Tenji Sherpa Jakob Urth, Vibeke Andrea Sefland, Jost Kobusch have seen it all – more than once. Witnessing vast changes in the environment and overall situations that are so different from that mission 71 years ago. Nevertheless, some things remain the same such as the value of cooperation instead of competition which is the most crucial element even for the most experienced mountaineers. An incomparable experience and mission that lights up the eyes of our top athletes when talking about it.
