Max Berger

Max began mountaineering and climbing in his early youth, climbing the north face of the Gd. Jorasses, the Bonatti Pillar on the Dru and the Freney Pillar on Mont Blanc in one week at the age of 20. He made his exams as mountain and ski guide in 1992 and then worked as an instructor himself for several years. As a mountain guide, he climbed the great north faces of the Alps, including the Eiger North Face several times. In 2000, he founded the Ice Climbing World Cup and initiated modern ice climbing without leashes. He achieved first ascents and repetitions of waterfalls up to grade VII (highest degree of difficulty in ice).
